“One Thing I Do”

It’s been interesting to watch the veritable war of words over the last few days following the shootings in Tucson. Some say the rhetoric has become too heated and should cease; others say the rhetoric is a hallmark of our First Amendment freedom of speech, and it should continue.
I believe both sides have valid arguments, so I’ll leave it to the pundits to keep battling it out in the court of public opinion. As for me, at the risk of sounding like a broken record: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (Phil. 3:13-14)
(As a fitting post-script, check out Quin Hillyer’s excellent piece in the American Spectator. While I would disagree with his statement, channeling Lincoln’s first inaugural address, that “we all are endowed by God... with the better angels of human nature” -- see, e.g., Hebrews 11:6: “without faith it is impossible to please God” -- he does make a good case for following Paul’s instruction in Philippians 4:8: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable -- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy -- think about such things.”)
